Discount carrier Spirit relaunches direct daily flight from Fort Lauderdale to Nicaragua
Ultra-low or no cost carriers specializing in business ticket sales is re-starting their normal daily flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport to Managua, Nicaragua.
The direct flight project will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 30th. Spirit Airlines had discontinued their flights to Managua earlier this month, when general air travel came to a near standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Spirit Airlines is the only airline that flies direct from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Managua, Nicaragua. Most other airlines fly from Miami International Airport. Prices for flights between Miami and Nicaragua have surpassed $2,000 on American Airlines. Interestingly, Spirit Air doesn't include any carry-on or checked baggage charges.
Boston Herald: From its Fort Lauderdale hub, Spirit has expanded its presence Latin America and the Caribbean over the years with bargain basement air fares.
Spirit Airlines’ headquarters in Miramar, near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A few months earlier, to be exact, the low-priced carrier was the center of a bitter bidding war between Frontier Airlines and JetBlue Airways. JetBlue shareholders preferred the latter’s better offer. As such, if the JetBlue acquisition goes through, the low-priced airline will be acquired by its richer rival. Consumers would not see the benefits of the acquisition until the deal gets approved, which could take up to two years.
